Cylindrical roller bearings are single-row self-aligning roller bearings. They comprise a solid outer ring with a concave raceway, a solid inner ring with two ribs and a cylindrical or tapered bore, and roller elements with a cage. These bearings are non-separable. Cylindrical roller bearings are particularly suitable for applications involving high radial impact loads where eccentricity must be compensated. They possess only a low axial load capacity.
Cylindrical roller bearings possess exceptionally high radial load capacity and rigidity. Beyond handling substantial radial loads, they can also bear axial loads when employed as semi-locating or locating bearings. Radial loads are transmitted through the raceways, whilst axial loads are transferred via the end faces of the rolling elements and the ribs. This arrangement naturally imposes limitations on the axial load capacity.
